Uig - How to get there

By car

There are three ways to reach the Isle of Skye from the UK mainland.

1. Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Mallaig to Armadale (Uig 60 miles). Crossing time 30 minutes. For times and prices see Calmac website.

Glenelg-Kylerhea Ferry 2. Private ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea (Uig 54 miles). Very scenic route, but involves much driving on narrow roads. Crossing time 5 minutes. 3. The controversial toll bridge(tolls removed in December 2004) from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin (Uig 50 miles).

From any of these points of entry, just follow the signs for Portree and then Uig.

By bus
Citylink run buses to Uig from Glasgow, Inverness, Fort William. See the Citylink website for details. There is also a local bus serviceRapsons Buses to get you here from other parts of Skye, and to get you around the area once you are here. Phone Portree Tourist Office (01478-612137) for latest details. Both the Citylink and local bus services go past our door.

By train
By train you can get as far as Kyle of Lochalsh, then take Citylink bus to Uig, or hire car at Kyleakin (see below).
Or by train to Mallaig, then take ferry to Armadale, Rapsons(Highland Country)bus to Broadford and Citylink bus to Uig.

By ferry
Uig Ferry at Tarbert, Harris If you are arriving on Skye from the Western Isles, you can get a ferry from Tarbert (Harris) or Lochmaddy (North Uist) to Uig. Visit Calmac site for details. Our house is one mile from the ferry terminal, and we will be happy to collect you if you are on foot.

By air

Flights to Scotland from HIAL. Nearest airport is Inverness, from which a car can be hired or the Citylink bus taken.

Car and Bicycle Hire
Car Hire is available at Portree Coachworks (Uig 17 miles),Broadford(Uig 42 miles) and Kyleakin (Uig 50 miles). From elsewhere in Scotland try Cheap Car Hire Scotland, one of the UK's largest rental operators, offering discount deals on rental of cars, minibuses, vans, trucks and 4x4's.

Skye Bicycle Hire have cycles for hire in Uig.

Taxi
Glasgow Airport Millennium Taxis offer a service from anywhere in Scotland to anywhere in Scotland. More locally, taxis can be found in the main square in Portree.

Location of Braigh Uige
View of Uig Bay Coming from Portree: as you descend the hill into Uig, you will see the bay and the pier as in the picture on the left. Look out for the Uig Hotel on your right. Our house is the second on the right after the hotel.
Coming from Uig Pier: follow the ferry traffic along the main road (signposted Portree), and after 3/4 mile look out for the Post Office on your right. Braigh Uige is the next house on the left (about 1/4 mile further on). It is just below the church in the picture.
